Paris, (SANA) – President Bashar al-Assad met on Sunday at his residence in Paris the President of Cyprus Dimitris Christofias and discussed with him the bilateral relations and regional developments.
The two presidents agreed to solve any problem facing the relations between Syria and Cyprus, with President al-Assad inviting President Christofias to visit Syria in order to further discuss the bilateral relations and means for developing them.
For his part, the Cypriot President renewed his country's support to Syria's right to restore the occupied Syrian Golan, underlining the necessity of applying UN resolutions that call for the Israeli withdrawal from all the occupied Arab lands.
The meeting was attended by Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs Markos Kyprianou, Syrian Assistant Foreign Minister Abdul Fattah Ammoura and the Cypriot Ambassador to France.
In statements to the press following the meeting, President Christofias described his meeting with President al-Assad on Sunday as "good and friendly," pointing out that he will be visiting Syria answering the invitation from President al-Assad.
President Christofias affirmed the strength of the standing friendship between the two countries, adding that he and President al-Assad agreed to resolve any obstacle hindering the relations between Syria and Cyprus.
Regarding Middle East issues, the Cypriot President affirmed the need for implementing UN resolutions that call for the Israeli withdrawal from the occupied Syrian Golan and the occupied Arab lands in order to achieve peace in the Middle East.
He also expressed satisfaction over the results of the Syrian-French summit held by Presidents al-Assad and Sarkozy.
For his part, President al-Assad answered questions by the Cypriot press regarding the marine line and relations between the two countries, affirming that these issues were discussed.
President al-Assad added that he invited President Christofias to visit Syria as soon as possible to further discuss them along with other issues related to Syrian-Cypriot relations.
