Damascus, (SANA) – Speaker of the People's Assembly Dr. Mahmoud al-Abrash discussed on Tuesday with Deputy Speaker of the Russian State Duma Valery Yazev and the accompanying delegation bilateral parliamentary relations and their role in improving Syrian-Russian relations in all fields.
Talks focused on the importance of the discussions and ideas touched upon during the meeting of the Sub-Committee of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) on Environment, Global Warming and Planting Billions of Trees in Asia which was held on Monday in Damascus, stressing the need to combine efforts of Asian countries to preserve the continent from pollution.
Discussions also touched on the encouraging economic and investment atmosphere in Syria and Russia.
Dr. al-Abrash expressed Syria's appreciation of the State Duma's support for Arab causes in general and Syrian causes in particular, underlining the importance of bolstering bilateral parliamentary relations and increasing the exchange of MP visits to coordinate stances and boost economic, social, cultural and investment relations.
For his part, Yazev voiced the State Duma's appreciation of Syria's pivotal role in the region, affirming the importance of pushing economic relations between the two countries forward and encouraging Syrian and Russian investors to establish joint and independent investments in either countries.
The meeting was attended by Chairman of the Arab and Foreign Affairs Committee, Chairman of the National Security Committee, and Chairman of the Syrian-Russian Parliamentary Friendship Committee at the People's Assembly.
