Damascus,(SANA)- During his meeting this morning with Lebanese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Fawzi Salloukk , President Bashar al-Assad renewed Syria's position and standing desire to establish best relations with brotherly Lebanon on all levels , stressing the necessity for the removal of all obstacles that hinder the march of the development of the historical relations that bring the two countries together . The president also stressed Syria's support to everything that can contribute to the strength and invincibility of Lebanon. Sallouk conveyed Lebanese President , Michel Suleiman greetings to President al-Assad. The steps that the relations between the two countries have taken since the Syrian-Lebanese Summit lat August and the substantial measures that have been taken to follow up the implementation of what was issued by the summit of decisions to boost these relations and meet the aspiration of the two brotherly peoples , were reviewed. Minister Salloukh expressed Lebanon's appreciation of Syria's stances under the leadership of President al-Assad ,which support Lebanon's unity , and stability , and of the measures that have been taken by Syria to develop these relations. The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister , Walid Moallem and presidential Political and Media Advisor , Butheina Shaaban , and Sallouk's accompanying delegation. During a joint statement issued following his talks with Moallem, Salloukh stressed that he touched during his meeting with President , Bashar al-Assad, all care to develop and consolidate the Syrian-Lebanese relations in the interest of the two countries , serving stability and accord of all the Lebanese citizens . The Lebanese foreign minister said that the relations between Syria and Lebanon are based on endless factors of kinship that have been derived from joint history , geography and interests and are not confined to the official political aspect only. He expressed pleasure for the signing of the joint statement issued by the foreign ministries of the two countries , announcing the start of the diplomatic relations between the two countries on the ambassadorial level. He underlined that the announcement of the start of diplomatic relations between the two countries constitutes an additional factor to be added to the distinguished relations between Syria and Lebanon which is derived from the unanimity of the Lebanese and expressed by Altaif Accord, and today by the political will of the two countries through the latest Assad –Suleiman Summit. The Lebanese foreign minister, indicated that his talks with Moallem dealt with aspects of bilateral relations and completion of what was done during the latest Syrian –Lebanese summit in addition to a number of regional issues, the peace process and the continued Israeli threat represented by the continuation of the occupation and escalation of the practices in the occupied Palestinian territories. He described the announcement of the establishment of diplomatic relations as the first step that has reflected the interest and good will of the two countries. He said that all the Lebanese leaderships welcomed President al-Assad's decision and issuance of the decree to establish diplomatic relations and to open embassies in both countries taking into consideration the sovereignty and independence of each country. He stressed the necessity for the presence of security cooperation between the two countries to keep away the ghost of smugglers and eradicate those who try to create sedition and plant explosives , and the mission of the two embassies will be in intensifying the joint action to maintain peace and security in both countries. Regarding the previously signed agreements between the two countries , Salloukh indicated that the agreements are being reviewed and studies by both sides and there is no objection if one of the parties wants to modify them if this falls in the interests of the two countries. For his part, Minister Moallem described Slloukh's meeting with President al-Assad as fruitful. He said in response to a question related to the the Syrian army deployment near the borders with Lebanon , Moallem said that the deployment of few hundreds of soldiers aimed at preventing smuggling and controlling the borders and that was agreed upon by the Syrian-Lebanese summit under the article :"Demarcation and Control of the Borders ", and was mentioned in the joint statement. He added that what happened was within the Syrian territories and any talk about it will be an intervention in the Syrian affairs , stressing brotherly intention toward Lebanon and care for its security and stability. He said what Syria was doing is in the service of security in Syria and Lebanon and any other interpretations will be for mere selfish political purposes that do not serve the interests of both peoples. He said that President Bashar al-Assad was the first to propose the exchange of diplomatic relations during the meeting of the Syrian-Lebanese Higher Council in the presence of former Lebanese President Emile Lahoud, the then Premier , Omar Karami , and Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri , and when President Suleiman visited Damascus this was mentioned in the issued statement . He added that the Syrian and Lebanese decision and the political will of the two countries are dictated by the interest and will of the two brotherly peoples and not to please any one , stressing that the opening of embassies in Damascus and Beirut will be accomplished before the end of current year. He expressed hope that the exchange of diplomatic representation will be a symbol and a window for boosting the historical brotherly ties and the two peoples will look to the future in the perspective of the two peoples interests, indicating that the relations between the two countries are not confined to diplomatic representation but also through the work of the Syrian-Lebanese Higher Council General Secretariat and of the various ministries in both countries. Concerning the task of the Syrian embassy in Beirut, Moallem indicated that the Syrian embassy will respect the Lebanese regulations and laws and there should not be high commissioners who are allowed to do that while others are denied this privilege in Lebanon , the laws should be applied on all ,and the Syrian ambassador will be the first to comply with these laws. Concerning the movement of the Syrian and Lebanese citizens after this announcement, Moallem stressed that the tend is grant more facilities than the present on passengers, and goods levels. Regarding the American position toward the Syrian policy, Moallem said that Syria has always called for constructive dialogue to discuss the issue of the region in center of which Syria is living and if the American have the desire to continue this dialogue we have no objection to it.
