Cairo, (SANA) – The Arab League announced in a press statement on Wednesday that it reached an agreement on a solution package on the Darfur crisis and the demand of the International Criminal Court (ICC) that includes a number of political and legal steps and procedures for resolving the issue.
Most importantly, the solution package gives priority to the political settlement of the Darfur issue, affirming the rule of law, carrying out justice, revitalizing the political solution initiative of the Sudanese national forces, and overcoming obstacles regarding the participation of militant movements in political solution efforts based on the Abuja agreement, in addition to benefiting from the efforts of neighboring countries to achieve a settlement.
The solution package also calls for bolstering the role of UNAMID, providing all its need, and helping it carry out its duties, in addition to benefiting from the standing triple cooperation between Sudan, the African Union and the UN to provide relief to the people of Darfur.
A request will be presented to the Security Council to cease the procedures taken as part of its decision number 1593 in accordance with the efforts of the Arab League, the African Union and the Sudanese government that aim to end the Darfur crisis.
