Doha, (SANA)-President Bashar al-Assad and his Wife on Saturday evening attended the opening ceremony of the Islamic Art Museum in Doha, answering an invitation from Emir of the State of Qatar His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
The opening ceremony was also attended by several Arab and foreign leaders and dignitaries.
The Islamic Art Museum is the biggest and most modern building of its kind in the Middle East. It hosts innovations from the Islamic civilizations throughout 1400 years, and aims at displaying the Islamic various arts and ancient antiques on the world level.
The museum is built on an artificial island, with designs inspired from the yard of Ahmad bin Tolon Mosque. It consists of a main building of five floors and a two-storey educational pavilion. The Museum's gardens stretches on 260,000-square-meters area.
The findings on display include very ancient books, manuscripts, metals, glass, ivory, tissues, precious stones and silver, copper and bronze coins.
