Damascus, (SANA) – The Ministry of Economy and Trade organized on Tuesday a training course in cooperation with the German Technical Cooperation Society (GTZ) on protecting national products against unjustified increase in imports resulting from dumping or increased subsidizes.
Participants pointed out that dumping or flooding is one of the illegal practices in international trade, and involves exporting products at lower prices that those of their sale prices in the exporting country or the overall cost of manufacture and export.
Assistant Minister of Economy Ghassan al-Eid stressed that integration with global economy causes an exponential expansion in economy and trade exchange, which could be associated with harmful practices such as dumping or oversupply, support and urgent increase in imports.
He went on to say that Law Number 42 for 2006 was issued to protect local products from harmful products in international trade and continue the process of economic reform and adopting the social market economy.
Director of the Trade Facilitation and Efficiency Department Mahmoud Obeid, who also heads a unit for combating dumping and support, said that dumping gives local authorities the right to take steps to confront it, such as imposing compensatory fees on saturated products. He added that certain countries provide various forms of support to local manufacturers in order to increase their competitive capabilities in foreign markets.
In turn, Director of GTZ in Syria Michael Krakowski pointed out that GTZ aims to develop the various fields of cooperation with the Syrian government in order to boost national capabilities, expressing the Society's readiness to increase cooperation to protect local products.
