Oct 15, 2008

Damascus, (SANA) - Secretary General of the Arab-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry Abdul-Aziz al-Mekhlafi affirmed on Wednesday the importance of Syria's role in various fields, underlining the progress it witnessed during the past few years.

During a meeting between a delegation from the Arab-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Assistant Minister of Economy and Trade Mohammad Ghassan Habash, al-Mehlafi stressed the importance of increasing economic, commercial and investment cooperation between Syria and Germany, particularly since German imports from Syria are the highest among the European Union countries.

He also called on Syrian and German businessmen to increase cooperation, which will serve both sides' interests.

For his part, Habash expressed desire for bolstering relations with the German side in various fields, pointing out that Syria and Germany signed an agreement for protecting joint investments.
