CAIRO, SANA- The preparatory meetings for meeting of the Arab Ministers concerned with water affairs began Tuesday in Cairo on the level of senior officials at the Ministries of Waters in the Arab countries. The meeting chaired by Advisor of Syria's Irrigation Minister Ghassan Rustom . In a statement to press, Rustom said: " The 2-day discussions aim at outlining the Arab preparations for the Global Forum of Waters scheduled in Istanbul on March 2009". He added that the meetings will review work papers on the legal and legislative measures for protection of the Arab interests in common waters with the non-Arab countries, economies of waters, implementation of an integrated management of waters resources to achieve sustainable development in the Arab region, the untraditional waters resources and the strategy for developing them in the Arab region. He underlined that the meeting aims at setting a unified Arab stance to be submitted to the Global Forum in Istanbul in order to maintain the Arab interests in waters field. He pointed out to a proposal on establishment of an Arab ministerial council for waters in the framework of the Arab League to enhance the Arab potentials in this domain through adopting unified Arab measures lead to an Arab agricultural integration for best utilization of waters in the Arab region.
