Archeological Findings Unearthed in Hama

Hama, central Syria (SANA)- The American archeological mission working at Tal al-Karkour Site in the Syrian central Governorate of Hama have unearthed at the end of this year's season 2008 small clay jars, with one containing four silver Hellenistic coins along with pyramid-shaped coffin consisted of clay pieces dating back to the Byzantine era.

Head of Hama Directorate of Ruins Jamal Ramadan said the new findings and discoveries indicated that the period of settlement at al-Karkour Site had extended over the period from 8500 B.C. until the Mamluki Period 1350 A.C.

Mr. Ramadan pointed out that the American mission completed during this year's season the excavation works it had started over the past few years where it carried out new diggings at the Site.

Last year's findings included a temple, two full censers inside the temple used for religious rituals along with other appliances, a stone dagger and clay seals.
